Many are unaware that leather production is a by-product of milk and meat industries and therefore does not contribute to an increase in animal populations.

Leather's unique properties, such as its versatility, non-combustibility, flexibility, and natural beauty, make it a high-quality and durable material. Its longevity and biodegradability enhance its sustainability, clearly distinguishing it from alternative materials. These qualities make leather a remarkable material with immense potential for a sustainable future.
In our unwavering quest for quality, we are committed to critical issues such as animal welfare, traceability, and environmental considerations throughout the entire supply chain. This dedication drives every decision we make. In alignment with the 'Five Freedoms' of the Farm Animal Welfare Council (FAWC), we reject materials sourced from regions that lack transparency and animal welfare standards.
At our tannery in Ichenhausen, we use 7-8 kg of raw material per m² of leather. Over 80% of this material is converted into finished leather, energy, and other products. Shavings are processed into leather fiber, collagen, and fertiliser. Sewage sludge accounts for 15-18% of the total mass, while non-usable waste from the dry hide material is less than 2%.
Sustainability and life cycles are our foundation and driving force. At BADER, we breathe new life into residual materials and by-products of the leather industry through our subsidiary AVEMA, to create innovative, sustainable products. We keep developing new products and ideas using recyclable materials from various production processes to optimise resource use.
