| Last week, BADER had the pleasure of hosting another comprehensive leather seminar and factory tour, welcoming 20 talented transportation interior design students together with their professor Katharina Jose from Color, Material and Finish (CMF) / Transportation Interior Design at Hochschule Reutlingen (TEXOVERSUM Faculty of Textiles). The visit offered an in-depth journey into the world of leather — following the entire value chain from raw material processing to finished design applications. It provided students with a unique opportunity to experience how craftsmanship, sustainability, and innovation come together in modern leather production. The program began at BADER’s tannery in Ichenhausen, where participants gained valuable insights into key production and environmental processes. A particular focus was placed on wastewater treatment, sustainability practices, and animal welfare standards, highlighting the importance of responsible and resource-conscious manufacturing within the leather industry. The journey continued at the BADER headquarters in Göppingen, where the group explored the subsequent stages of leather processing and the wide range of design possibilities the material offers. Here, students were introduced to the interplay between technical production steps and creative design decisions that shape modern interior applications. A central focus of the visit was CMF (Color, Material, Finish) design. The students received hands-on insights into cutting processes, development workflows, and colour evaluation methods. This practical experience was complemented by an introduction to BADER’s innovation centre, where advanced technologies such as laser processing and digital printing demonstrate how traditional materials can be transformed through modern techniques. The program concluded with a design presentation showcasing diverse leather applications. This final session allowed participants to present their creative approaches and reflect on how material properties, processing techniques, and design thinking come together in real-world automotive interior development. By opening its doors to emerging designers, BADER continues to underline its commitment to education, knowledge exchange, and the development of future talent. Engaging with young professionals not only fosters inspiration but also strengthens the connection between industry practice and academic learning. BADER looks forward to continuing this collaboration and supporting the next generation of designers as they shape the future of material innovation and interior design. |
