Material innovation with social impact

Our next generation leather combines chrome-free tanning technology with selected bio-based raw materials, including a by-product from coffee production. This innovative tanning process reflects our continuous efforts to develop new material solutions while maintaining the high quality and performance required for automotive leather. Through our sourcing approach, we also support initiatives that contribute to the livelihoods of coffee-growing communities, combining material innovation with responsible business practices.

In Focus: The Coffee Fruit Shell

Coffee by-product innovation

In coffee production, the focus is usually on the beans, while the fruit shells are often discarded as waste. BADER purchases these shells from local farmers and transforms them into a tanning powder called Cascara. Preliminary data indicates that around 171.9 million bags of coffee were produced globally in 2020, providing an abundant supply of Cascara.

Chrome-free retanning with Cascara

Cascara, a by-product of coffee production, is used as part of our chrome-free tanning process. This innovative approach combines bio-based raw materials with advanced tanning technology to create high-quality leather for demanding automotive applications.

SOCIAL EFFECTS THROUGH CASCARA

Supporting coffee farmers

Thousands of families depend on coffee cultivation, harvesting and production. Unfortunately, the fruit shells of the coffee beans are often discarded as waste. BADER purchases these dried fruit shells from local farmers in Mexico, Ethiopia, China, and Thailand, providing them with a second source of income. Our motto:
